Amiibo Pre-Orders Broke Gamestop

At 3pm EST, the new wave of Nintendo's Amiibos
became available for pre-order and, apparently, the world just
can’t handle it. It would appear that pre-orders for
Nintendo’s wildly popular figurines have shut down
Gamestop’s website, and according to Twitter
TWTR
-0.1%, even in-store cash registers
have stopped working. Gamestop has handled game and hardware
releases before, but apparently this is just how badly people want
Nintendo figurines, particularly the retailer exclusive Ness.
Twitter is losing its collective mind over this at the moment,
and as usual provides the best up-to-the-second, hysterical
developments. Here’s a statement from Gamestop:
Due to very strong demand for the
newest wave of Nintendo’s amiibo figures, GameStop is
experiencing some technical issues with its gamestop.com website.
At this time, customers are invited to
visit and shop their local GameStop store for their video game
needs. We are working aggressively to resolve the technical issues
as quickly as possible and expect it to be back online
shortly.
