OT - ALU
OT - ALU - eh - saw ALU rising, jumped and doubled my (small)
stake @$3.84, figuring I might add after earnings if it drops
more.
Very strange deal - stocks like ALU apparently have an added fee
- right now .02 a share - charged by the bank that's involved in
the transaction. So, one is charged that no matter what the price
of the stock - would not be of any concern to me, but I just
learned that some ADRs, such as TEF, charge that fee quarterly, and
it changes quarter to quarter. Probably, all of you know this, and
it's not of concern. My guess is that's what shows up on something
like 'foreign fees paid' in my taxes. Just seems odd to me, upon
learning this, that it can get charged not just at the transaction,
but multiple times a year - and is distinct from foreign taxes
paid.
The latter makes sense to me. The former sounds like I'm paying
*them* a dividend, given that the amount and frequently of the
'charge' is repetitive. Ah well, cost of doing business, I
suppose.
