OT - Rally
OT - Market seems accepting of a rate hike today. Funny how
supply/demand for oil flip flops on a frquent basis. Apparently,
the economy is doing so well that 'dead' companies like CAT and RIG
are flying - all we've seen for a couple of years is basic
materials getting continually beaten down. Not clear that this is a
trend, rather than simply one optimistic day (funny how as Jester
points out, when projections are made, when we get to 'there'
oftentimes little has changed.)
Don't know why NOK is lagging today. Don't think it can be as
simple as Piper Jaffrey didn't give any mention to them in their
sunny sector analysis - although it is a company that seems to have
enough 'moving parts' that aren't in competition in that particular
sector. Did some work with my CPA and she was somewhat appalled
that NOK screwed their shareholders by forcing a sale of ALU in
early Jan, and then a buy of NOK. Yes, although they're far away in
another galaxy (or, might as well be, given that they have to
operate within the parameters of being based in Europe), her take
agreed with what has been said here - they really screwed American
holders royally. A share-conversion operation seems so simple and
logical. I still don't know a rational as to why they didn't do
that. That said, the article lt cap posted on the product Bell Labs
came up with seems quite positive, at least from what I
gleaned of it.

Jamok,
Yeah, forcing US shareholders to sell ALU and purchase of NOK,
was terrible. More so now that NOK relentlesly declined since
january, just stabilizing here in the mid to high 5s over the past
month or two. Hard to believe the price of NOK was aeround 7
when we were forced to purchase NOK, seems like a long time ago,
but it was just in December, IIRC.
That, BTW, is why not all shareholders agreed to the deal, some
5% or so have yet to convert, and there are news now that a law
suit has been filed to prevent the purchase and squeeze of the
remaining ALU shares on the French stock market, the link to
article follows, so don't hold me to the details, I am sure the
article spells it out better than I can. So, that is on hold and
this saga continues.
