thoughts on network
spending

In the last week I got 1Gb/s internet, and watched
rival cell phone companies take on Verizon for their "6-year old"
network, and reliabity within 1% at half the cost, etc. We know
that Verizon, AT&T will have to do a major expansion (new
network, higher speeds) in the nearish future - could it be
accelerated by the need to re-separate from the pack? The 10GB data
deal I got with Verizon 2 years ago is now 20GB for same. People
like me are going to get used to using more data at faster speeds
on PC, and start to expect an increase of data and speed on phone.
I want my providor to provide it. Not sure they can wait 1 or more
years just to get started. The weak (me) will get
restless!

But I am not plugged into this at the
level LT is (and maybe others are). Would love any comments anyone
might have about these general thoughts.

Service Providers are indeed giving much more storage,
faster speeds and overall data usage to stay
competitive. Comcast customers now are getting 1GB of
overall data usage before they start charging extra. This trend
will continue for years to come. This is similar to the PC
industry where for the same price you kept on getting far more
DRAM, Disk space and much more computing power.
As I have mentioned before, Video continues to be the killer app
when it comes to data usage and bandwidth requirements. 4K
content will explode in the next 2 to three years. Then there
will be VR and an explosion of AI applications which will use the
cloud. All of it requiring much more bandwidth.
