Yes, I had wondered why NOK had lost almost 3 percent. I thought
it might just be the abrupt 'Brownian Motion' that the sesctor is
subject to. And then why Apple wasn't the one taking the hit, given
that they're the ones being sued. But unfortunately, lt cap's
comment that this will drag on for along time and be incredibly
expensive. make sense to me. And I also thought about what a
ferocious foe Apple will be - obviously not some small company that
will 'cry uncle' quickly. And the cost of this dragging on
endlessly (you'd think both companies might like this to be over,
but probably not inreality): I recently had need of a lawyer and it
seemed like every time he even thought of me, it was $400. So I
asked him not to 'think about me' so much. And a mediocre lawyer he
was. Both sides probably need 20 of the top-shelf, $2k/hour
heavyweights. Owie, especially since Apple has a lot more $$ than
NOK to slug it out. In checking the news, I see that even
before this, the analyst community is getting more skeptical of
NOK - since late Oct., the action has been 3 straight analyst
downgrades. That NOK (if I'm reading it right) has tough Y/O/Y
comparisons, probably won't help. I do wonder whether the NOK/APPL
fight changes NOK's prospects fundamentally, or just delays it for
some time. Guess we'll see.
On a brighter note, one story spoke of the high-end, stunning
(his word) quality of the phones that won't be manufactured by NOK,
but will carry their name.
And the Macro: BOA chief strategist says that 20k for the Dow is
just the beginning and over time the trend will lift the market
"much, much higher." I can't recall whether it was BOA or
Goldman that predicted several years ago $200/bbl oil when it was
selling for $130/bbl. I wonder if we can really sustain a rally
that is very long in the tooth. And while Trump and Democrats seem
to agree that infrastructure spending should explode, I think that
when Trump's true nature comes to the fore, it will scare the crap
out of everyone, including the market. Or maybe the rally is
predicated on Trump's extreme pro-business stance. What do I know -
I thought Hilary was a 'lock'.
