QCOM

I am bullish long term, but think the market is so far ahead of itself. I sold calls on half my QCOM, Jun 26 94's at 2.20. Hope to just pocket it, but if I sell it above 96 I think that is good in this market.

Closed out my QCOM calls just now. Thought about seeing how things went, but figured do not get greedy and play the volatility.

Rinse and repeat with QCOM. Sold Jul24 calls, 94 strike for $2.10. I still think the market is ahead of itself, but maybe I am messing up with Nasdaq hitting new highs back to back days. We will see, but again I am willing to part with a bit over 50% of my shares above 96.

Jon,

Good luck to you with the calls. Hard to believe the market just keeps kiting higher - and esp the nasdaq. Let CIEN be a lesson to us! When it was as low as a bit below $53, I thought about buying my 300 shares back that, with premium, went for $53.50, but thought that it might consolidate lower. Up very strongly today past $56, and I'm not sure why, but of course I wish I had bought back some of my shares. NVDA looks like it wants to go to $400. Apple zooming again (how do unemployed people buy a new iphone? Or do they just swap those customers out for Chinese ones?)

I used to think that the economy and the market were, eventually in the final accounting, tied. I'm not so sure anymore. Between buybacks and companies (like CIEN) that don't have a direct consumer connection, the market may be more a function about how rich people feel about their standing in wealth. We'll see. Crazy times.

The calls last week expired since QCOM was <94 so yesterday I sold Aug 21 96 strike for $2.06. Rinse and repeat. Earnings are this week so a bit riskier to get called, but again I am ok with selling half my shares at 96. I am very bullish though overall. AAPL locked up for next 5 years, chips for nearly every 5G phone, expanding into auto market with chips amongst other things.

Jon - Just heard that QCOM not only had a good CC, but has made a deal with Hauwei, so your shares may be taken. Profits are good.  When you say APPL is 'locked' for the next 5 years, you are referring to their prospects, yes? Or your plans on holding them? Or both, most likely. Their PE is something I find worrisome, but the market doesn't seem to care about that with most all the tech giants, but momentum seems king at the moment.

Which brings me to this: I've been watching INFN for a while now, and in the last couple months they've just been on fire with momentum - up another 5% today, which is not unusual. I think I swore them off after some terrible timing on buying and selling them. Anyone know if there's fire there, or just smoke? I'm tempted to try a slice based on the continuing momentum alone.

And my thanks to lt cap who, very long ago I think, spoke of Intuitive Surgical (ISRG) when I inquired about robotic companies.  Currently right near 52 week high of $699, 52 week low $360. Kicking myself a bit for selling 20% on the way up, as a couple of analysts downgraded it on elective procedure concerns, lowering PT to $360 (it was in the $460 range at the time) Stupid analysts. If Covid continues to intensify (as I believe it will), they could get hurt, but as a long-term play, a price correction might be a good buying opp.

Damn that CIEN - has the same momentum as the best of the Nasdaq. $59. Not even close to where I wanted to buy shares back. Growing smaller in the rear view mirror.

Wow, quite the reaction to the news! I figured they'd beat by a few cents but the settlement with Huawei was unexpected. Yes, profits are good! And I will still hold half my shares so I am ok having more cash.  At some point the insanity must end right?
